The Creative Writer’s Workshop: Writers Studio / Work-in-Progress in the Burren, Co. Clare, Ireland

4 day Work-in-Progress Writers Studio in the historical home of the accomplished playwright and folklorist Lady Gregory. This is a fitting place for writers to create their masterpieces and enjoy the luxury, peace and tranquillity of this Georgian villa. Mount Vernon is set on the famous Flaggy Shore – the inspirational landscape for Seamus Heaney’s poem…The Flaggy Shore.
The workshop is open to advanced writers, writing fiction or creative non-fiction and limited to 5 participants. Participants will either have a concept in mind ready to write, or words already on the page. This workshop is not for participants new to writing.
The Writers Studio encompasses three elements:
* Private Story Consultations with Irene Graham
* The Language of Story Writing Workshop
* Personal Time to develop and write your story
The workshop is for writers that want to dedicate four days to develop and concentrate on their writing in a relaxed atmosphere with other writers. The workshop will allow writers the time and space to develop their writing while benefiting from private story consultations and daily group workshops on the art of language in story writing. Evenings will also be utilised for further writing discussions.
On your doorstep is the Flaggy Shore coastline of north-west Clare and the backdrop of the Burren mountains – a haven for walking, no matter what time of year. Mount Vernon Lodge boasts luxury at its best and each participant has a private room en suite.
The writing group will be the sole occupiers of Mount Vernon Lodge and will prepare and share meals. Further info upon booking. There are also many local quality restaurants on your doorstep in the village of Kinvara.

The Creative Writer’s Workshop guides you through simple and fun right-brain/left-brain exercises which draw upon your imagination as you learn the principles of story creation and express your creativity through writing fiction, personal memoir and poetry. This four day writing retreat is for writers that want to tap into life experiences and write memoir, or to use those experiences to translate into fiction. The workshop is based on Irene’s workbook – The Memoir Writing Workbook which will be used as support material throughout the workshop. This is an exclusive residential Writer’s Retreat for ten writers. The workshop is open to new and established writers.
Using right-brain/left-brain exercises you will develop and integrate significant life memories with narrative as you weave the elements of memoir writing within a creative structure.
It will be a time to discover and enhance your unique writing voice as you define your experiences and learn how to write from the heart of personal understanding. You will explore theme and subject and its associated meaning as you learn how to focus your memoir. You will discover how to use and incorporate your retrospective voice into your writing and how to engage with truth in the writing of creative non-fiction.

The Creative Writer's Workshop: Writing & Walking on the Aran Island of Inis Mór, Co. Galway, Ireland

Inis Mór Island, off Co. Galway, Ireland.
This is an exclusive residential Writer’s Retreat for eleven writers. The workshop is open to new and established writers.
The ideal participant will be committed to the writing process and is seeking an experience and in-depth understanding of fiction writing, story creation and personal creativity, coupled with the great outdoors. It is required that the participant is capable of walking two to three hours at a time.
Throughout 5 days and 4 nights the group will write and explore inner creativity and engage in inspiring walks around Inis Mór - the largest of the Aran Islands. The duration of each walk is flexible – 2/3 hours across easy terrain (not mountain trekking!). This workshop will provide the perfect setting for you to discover and develop your writing skills as you tap into your imagination, not only through writing, but by enjoying and exploring the rugged and invigorating terrain of Inis Mór island.
Experience island life as you learn to kick back to a pace conducive to writing and thinking creatively.
Using right-brain/left-brain exercises, the creative writing workshops throughout the week will focus upon creativity, deepening and enhancing your unique writing voice through the art of creative writing and the development of story.
You will understand how characters are created, how to develop them and learn techniques to imaginatively incorporate your character into the structure of story. You will also concentrate upon Theme within story as you learn how to weave and integrate life experiences into story narrative.
You will be enthralled by guided walks to the ancient island sites as you listen to mythical stories told by Dara Ó Maoildhia, a great storyteller and Celtic scholar living on Inis Mór.
You will also delight in a pony trap ride to one of these ancient sites! In the evenings you will be able to mix with the locals and enjoy Irish Traditional music. You will also have plenty of time to explore the island in your own time, or to just sit and write, as you overlook the vast Atlantic Ocean.
This is a unique opportunity to discover your inner creativity as you connect with the landscape in the peaceful and unspoilt environment of Inis Mór island.

The walks and visits to ancient sites on the island will be guided by Dara Ó Maoildhia, a Celtic scholar living on Inis Mór. Dara lives a spiritual lifestyle close to nature, working the land and practicing hospitality. He is author of the Guide Book to Inis Mór Legends in the Landscape. He is also involved with many projects within his own organisation Aisling Árann and within the wider island community.
